I have a new Epson Perfection 1260 flatbed scanner, and I have some problem to install it. I am using Suse 8.o Prof. When I start YaST it can not find my scanner, so I try to configure with YaST, I can not find any Epson 1260 on the list, so I use 1240. If I try to use the Test button, YaST freeze, but if I continue without the Test, my scanner works, but When I start my system the next time, there is no scanner. My SuSE have forgotten that I have a scanner. -- Garantert fri for virus. Kmail og SuSE 8.0

---------------------- Gunnar, My first suspicions are that you are not loading a module you need for the usb. Check to see if you have usbcore, usb-ohci or uhci, scanner modules loaded. That could be part of the problem. Also, the 1260 is a newer model, so the 1250 or even 1650 model may work better for your model. Hello, You can try iscan which is a frontend for Epson scanners under Linux. It allowed my scanner a Epson 1250 Photo to be able to use the transparancy adapter. I cannot remember the exact web site but do a google search and you should be able to get the .rpm. Works good for me. You may need to adjust the epson.conf file in sane for it to work in USB. -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, We just do not have all the anwsers to make the impossible, possible."

I can get my scanner to work with Iscan, Xsane and Kooka. My problem are that my SuSE forget that I have installed my scanner with YaST. When I restart me box, the scanner is gone. My usb mouse work so my usb modul must be loaded. Gunnar -- Garantert fri for virus. Kmail og SuSE 8.0

Hi Gunnar, If your usb modules (usb-*hci, usbcore) are loaded, you might miss 'scanner'. What happens if you do 'modprobe scanner' as root? Does your scanner work after this? If that is what fixes your problem, then adding 'modprobe scanner' to /etc/init.d/boot.local might fix it permanently. The entry in the hotplug file (/etc/hotplug/usb.distmap) should exist permanently once the scanner is configured. Cheers .... Thanks Wolfi, the modprobe scanner did fixet it. scanimage -L gave me this: device `plustek:/dev/usbscanner' is a Epson Perfection 1260 USB flatbed scanner. Thanks again. Gunnar -- Garantert fri for virus. Kmail og SuSE 8.0
