[SuSE Linux] Setting up Netscape
Hello there, Is there any site where thay explain how to set up Netscape? If there isn't such a site, would anyone be so kind and help me out? I have it installed but they don't explain how to set it up in the manual. Thanks in advance. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

What problems are you having setting up netscape? You mention you have it installed, do you also have ppp working? Setting up netscape requires you to go into the Preferences menu and set you email address, mail servers, and news servers. To do that, click on Edit and then scroll down to Preferences. Depending on which version you're using things get a little different, but it's pretty straight forward. Well i would like to have netscape with color buttons for forward back, and all the other icons, instead of them being some bland grey (default desk color in KDE) If anyone could help I would much appreasiate it. What color depth are you running X at? I've used Netscape with KDE and had color buttons. If you're running X at 24bpp, I recall seeig something somewhere that Netscape doesn't look well at that depth. If that's the case, try switching to 16bpp or 32bpp and see if that helps. -- __ _ Mark Wagnon -o) / / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chula Vista, CA /\\/ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / mailto:mwagnon@ixpres.com _\_v____/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

What card do you have? I had this problem with an S3 ViRGE using the SVGA server with 24 bpp. I solved the problem reading the README file for my card in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc which says (around line 39): "You should find that the VIRGE server is stable at all depths. The server supports 1 and 32 bpp pixmap formats. This fixes known problems with xanim and Netscape clients in early versions of the S3V server. " and then using the S3V server instead of the SVGA server. Hope this helps. Thankyou Mark, you remember correctly, i was running Netscape at 24bpp and have now moved to 32bpp. Insidently I also tried 16bpp and netscape looked good with that resolution to. Its stupid little things like this that drive you mad some times. The "new look" makes all the difference.
