Hi list :) I have just subscribed and I am new to this list so excuse me if I ask something that has already been answered (I've searched the archives but haven't found anything). I am trying to set up Squid as a Proxy for our LAN in our Faculty (absolutely all clients are Win9x) but I always get the same error messages. I am using SuSE 6.3 and have installed Squid 2 that comes with this distro (I haven't compiled, just installed it). The errors I get are: cache.log --------- 2000/02/11 08:52:29| Starting Squid Cache version 2.2.STABLE5 for i686-pc-linux-gnu... 2000/02/11 08:52:29| Process ID 145 2000/02/11 08:52:29| With 1024 file descriptors available 2000/02/11 08:52:29| helperOpenServers: Starting 5 'dnsserver' processes 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| ipcCreate: Failed to create child FD. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| WARNING: Cannot run '/usr/sbin/dnsserver' process. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| ipcCreate: Failed to create child FD. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| WARNING: Cannot run '/usr/sbin/dnsserver' process. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| ipcCreate: Failed to create child FD. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| WARNING: Cannot run '/usr/sbin/dnsserver' process. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| ipcCreate: Failed to create child FD. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| WARNING: Cannot run '/usr/sbin/dnsserver' process. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 2 to 127.0.0.1:0: (99) Cannot assign requested address 2000/02/11 08:52:30| ipcCreate: Failed to create child FD. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| WARNING: Cannot run '/usr/sbin/dnsserver' process. 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Unlinkd pipe opened on FD 6 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Swap maxSize 921600 KB, estimated 153600 objects 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Target number of buckets: 3072 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Using 8192 Store buckets, replacement runs every 10 seconds 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Max Mem size: 8192 KB 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Max Swap size: 921600 KB 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Rebuilding storage in Cache Dir #0 (DIRTY) 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Set Current Directory to /usr/local/squid/cache 2000/02/11 08:52:30| Loaded Icons. 2000/02/11 08:52:31| Accepting HTTP connections on port 3128, FD 28. 2000/02/11 08:52:31| Accepting ICP messages on port 3130, FD 29. 2000/02/11 08:52:31| Accepting HTCP messages on port 0, FD 30. 2000/02/11 08:52:31| Ready to serve requests. 2000/02/11 08:52:31| storeRebuildFromDirectory: DIR #0 done! 2000/02/11 08:53:22| storeLateRelease: released 0 objects 2000/02/11 08:53:22| Finished rebuilding storage disk. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Entries read from previous logfile. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Entries scanned from swap files. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Invalid entries. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 With invalid flags. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Objects loaded. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Objects expired. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Objects cancelled. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Duplicate URLs purged. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| 0 Swapfile clashes avoided. 2000/02/11 08:53:22| Took 52 seconds ( 0.0 objects/sec). 2000/02/11 08:53:22| Beginning Validation Procedure 2000/02/11 08:53:22| Completed Validation Procedure 2000/02/11 08:53:22| Validated 0 Entries 2000/02/11 08:53:22| store_swap_size = 21k and the access.log: ---------- FATAL: Too many queued dnsserver requests I've been trying to configure it for two days (today's the third), and I always get the same error. FATAL: Too many queued dnsserver requests
I've been trying to configure it for two days (today's the third), and I always get the same error.
I've checked out /usr/sbin/dnsserver and it's got the right permissions, I've also checked out ownership, ... everything seems to be OK. I've also read the Squid FAQs and tried out the answers -> no results.
Hmm.. I have been Administering Squid2 for nearly 2 years now and that is a cute looking error.. Have you got all of your resolv.conf defined and also the alternate DNS Servers for Squid to query (if any)? If this list does not provide you with the help that you need, have you considered posting this message to the squid-users mailing list? Guaranteed that one of the gurus there will be able to help you :) The address can be found on the Squid homepage. Cya Matthew Matthew King: Network Engineer, Cable & Wireless Optus.
