I don't know if this mail will get out, nor do I know if I will receive any replies, but it's a try. It appears that the last updates from YOU have cause the nameserver entry to be deleted everytime I reboot. Has anybody else seen this? $ ssh -X root@localhost\ -f /usr/X11/bin/xterm\ -T 'root@localhost'\ -geometry 80x58+400+600\ -font 10x20 -background \'#ffdddd\' # yast2& Network Services -> DNS and Hostname -> Name Server and Domain Search List -> Name Server 1 -> [IP_ADDRESS_OF_DNS] Domain Search 1 -> [local.domain] Finish exit YaST2 ^d $ ping www.suse.de Good things happen. Reboot and I cannot ping anything. When I go back to the same dialog in YaST2, the name server entry is blank. Steven

This may not be due to YOU patches. I also reinstalled all of GNOME recently. There might be something there causing the problem. But it IS a problem. Any ideas? I really don't want to go digging through scripts right now. Steven

I removed something called netapplet, which is indeed a gnomism. I also shutdown something called networkmanager, which isn't showing up with a `pin networkmanager', so I don't know where it came from. I was able to reboot and the DNS works on my workstation. Steven

network manager is something you should currently stay away from. It doesn't play nice with much of anything at the moment. I guess it will be good in the future, but it completely destroyed the network config on my machine
