I have just upgraded my server to Kernel 2.2.16-SuSE which I downloaded fom the SuSE ftp site, and I'm getting some odd VM (virtual machine) errors in my log files. I have had to reboot back to the 2.2.14-SuSE kernel. A sample of my log messages are: Jun 29 10:09:00 eric kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for kswapd... Jun 29 10:09:33 eric kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for bash... Jun 29 10:13:07 eric kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for kswapd... Jun 29 10:15:02 eric kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for fetchnews... Jun 29 10:15:03 eric kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for kswapd... Jun 29 10:15:03 eric kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for run-crons... Jun 29 10:15:03 eric kernel: VM: killing process run-crons Anybody else encountered this? If so, is there a fix? The virtual memory management of the 2.2.16 kernel seems to have some problems. I posted a patch for this problem yesterday. We will also provide new RPMs ASAP. Yes, if you want to use ssh to login into a host, it needs to have "sshd" running.
