[opensuse] Update kills Firefox
Yesterday, there was an update for Firefox, which I installed. Now, Firefox will not start. When I try it from the command line, I get this error message: "Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.0.9 and 1.9.0.9." I'm running 64 bit OpenSUSE 11.0, but installed the 32 bit Firefox. Any ideas? tnx jk -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Installing mozilla-xulrunner190-32bit, mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-32bit and mozilla-xulrunner190-translations-32bit could help. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Already got gnomevfs. None of the 3 systems I looked at have that translations package. Also, why should a security update that includes those break Firefox? $ rpm -qa|grep xulrunner mozilla-xulrunner190-1.9.0.9-0.1 mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-1.9.0.9-0.1 mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-32bit-1.9.0.10-1.1 mozilla-xulrunner190-32bit-1.9.0.10-1.1 BTW I'm running KDE. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

translations are only for locales other than en-US.
Also, why should a security update that includes those break Firefox?
It shouldn't.
$ rpm -qa|grep xulrunner mozilla-xulrunner190-1.9.0.9-0.1 mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-1.9.0.9-0.1 mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-32bit-1.9.0.10-1.1 mozilla-xulrunner190-32bit-1.9.0.10-1.1
BTW I'm running KDE.
You noticed that you have a version mismatch? Your 32bit xulrunner is 1.9.0.10 while your 64bit is 1.9.0.9 and apparently your Firefox is 32bit and 1.9.0.9. That doesn't fit and the message tells you exactly this. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, how would it get that way? Firefox was working fine prior to the update. I have used Yast to revert the to .10 packages back to .9 and it now works. Is there a problem with the update? -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't know for the official updates. In OBS:mozilla there is version 1.9.0.10 and the latest official update is 1.9.0.9. So zypp decided to update your 32bit packages to the buildservice ones and the others were apparently used from the update channel. Why? Don't know. Ask the zypp guys. The update repo has a higher priority, thus packages from there have a better chance of being installed (although it may also have to do with vendor, but I believe it is the priority. I usually double check to make sure from which repo a package will come from. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 11.1 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
