[opensuse] Sound problem with openSUSE 11.2
Does anyone experience sound problem with openSUSE 11.2 with KDE ? I have two systems, an AMD Athlon on 64 bits and an Intel Atom on 32 bits, both don't have sound. Anyone knows a way to solve this issue ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Dogdan - I just went through this (insert choice swear word here) on my media center and can tell you what I found was the problem... Buried deep in the bowels of KMix I discovered that a number of controls for my sound card were invisible and had to be explicitly made visible (ver 3.6 alpha 2) Some of these controls, besides having a slider to set the level for that control, also have a mute checkbox. And believe it or not, I needed to be able to first find and set the right control visible so that I could then discover that it's mute checkbox was defaulted to being checked, i.e. muting.. So search through KMix's controls, and make sure that ALL the mute checkboxes are unchecked.. (I had several! Too bad they could not have been all overridden by a single master mute switch!) If that does not work, the openSuSE wiki has instructions for tracking down sound issues and missing codecs but be prepared for some teeth gnashing as you try to parse through all that.. It is NOT easy to understand or follow... (for me this turned out to be a red herring, but I gather this has helped others who had sound problems..) http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AudioTroubleshooting Good luck! Marc...

Thanks for posting this, both of you. I was thinking it was only me and the three laptops I had to put aside for later after trying to set them up (sound messy, wifi messy etc.)...
