[opensuse] Can't play video files
LS, I tried to playback some video files with the MP4 or DV extension, without suc6. I used MVP, Xine, DragonPlayer and VLC but only VLC let me hear some audio but, like all others, no video. Just to test, KDENLIVE did work, but of course is not intended as a player. Some complained that there was no DV codec present, so I installed libdv4 too - libdv was already present. Alas, this did not work too. I used most of the programs in the past, in one time or another, and all played well. Can anybody shed some light on what is going on here, or do I need to compile a video player myself? * did you use the packman repository? and use the link in yast "replace all packages by the ones in this repo" * install the "codecs " (search for this in yast? jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I did search for codecs and installed them, but did not use the packman repository. The reason I did not use packman is stability of the installation as a whole. My past experience with various packages from the packman repos varies from stable to buggy. Another reason is that MP4 and DV are already longer existing codecs, where the assumption is that any decent distro has already stable packages to support these codecs. -- Frans -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Wrong move. Use the Packman repo if you wish to view movies. Done by the same people as the standard crippled repo, for legal reasons, so certainly not unstable nor buggy. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I tried the packman repository and it does work now. So, it is indeed the FUD around licensing that OpenSUSE deploy crippled versions of media players.
