Where can I go to find out how Yast 2 works? For example, does it upgrade packages from the origional install only? Does it upgrade items from the Suse disks only? Or does it update any RPM that is on the system? Does it read the RPM database first? And things like that. TIA Harry G

Contrary to what Slashdot tells you, you do have the source code to it. Also the manuals, /usr/share/doc/packages/yast*, etc.
For example, does it upgrade packages from the origional install only?
You can't upgrade a package if it isn't installed...I'm not sure I understand you.
Does it upgrade items from the Suse disks only? Or does it update any RPM that is on the system?
What other rpms would you have? Binary rpms generally can't be used between different distributions or even different versions of the same distribution. But yes, you can do yast2 -i some_arbitrary_SuSE_package.rpm if that's what you mean.
Does it read the RPM database first? And things like that.
Yes. I think this is covered pretty heavily in the manuals. -- -ckm
