I have the x86 version installed on a Lifebook E360 with a dock (DEC tulip LAN + PCMCIA Lan card) and on a x86_64 Acer 1501LCe laptop with LAN, USB stuff etc. No problems on either, so there is a good chance of the Amilo is OK. Kernels 2.6.12-rc4 now installed on both. http://n.ethz.ch/student/goelzera/public/linux_amilo_m7425.html Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Why don't you try to get hold of the Live DVD and see if that will work on your laptop, then you will have an idea before you spend the big bucks.

. . I have 9.2 installed on an Amilo (1.7Ghz 'Dothan'). With the exception of WiFi (I use Linuxant drivers), I have no problems. I suspect 9.3 should be fine as well. Rudolf

I installed 9.3 on a Dell Lattitude D-600. Snagged the windows modem drivers for the wire-less nic and using ndiswrapper installed it with some help from Google. I don't have a persistent config for the nic, but the bash history has the needed line to make it active. (I'll work on that when a get several minutes.) The additions in KDE dealing with WIFI are a great help in setting access points.

After doing a scan for sites in KDE software, how does one choose a given access point? Clicking with the mouse, left or right option won't highlight any access point. Help appreciated. I wish I could help Fred. I haven't been back to that unit in a bit. My neighbour had a WAP with no security but seems to have done away with it. I didn't have 9.3 when I went to penguicon, but i did have the laptop (9.1 no kde updates to 3.4) and had to use you know what. :(

Ok......thanks. Nothing works to select an access point, which can't be the intent of the software. Best, Fred -- "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!" Brought to you by the US Department of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act(s) numerous Presidential Directives, etc.

Doc Searles has something on this topic, I think it's in the current version of Linux Journal. Might be of some help. Mike

Um... I'm still working out the kinks in this myself, but I've been able to do it using the 'iwconfig' command. Usually 'iwconfig ethX ap <essid>.' The 'iwlist' command shows APs within range. *My* problem, so far, has been getting the AP's DHCP server to assign me an IP address. It works at home, and at a friend's house, on local WLANs, but at public APs like Kinko's, Borders, and various hotels, iwconfig shows me as being associated with the right AP, but I never get an IP address. And since I travel 6-8months/year with this laptop, this is very frustrating.

Yes......that problem is also true for this particular laptop. Obviously, there needs to be more work done on getting wireless to work more reliably, and better software in KDE. Just make sure you have everything plugged in and connected when installing. Makes setup a lot easier. I have 9.2 on my Toshiba, and it works great. Harry G

9.3 is runnnig quite nicely on Fujitsu Amilo including wlan and touchpad identified automatically during install. The only limitation is ATI which is a 9700 SE card and those are yet not supporting the 3D under linux ( I do not know if they do under windows as I have wiped out windows that came preinstalled on the laptop) -- Togan Muftuoglu | Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer | Please reply to the list; http://susefaq.sf.net | Please don't put me in TO/CC.
