On my Nikon D70, I have the option of telling the camera to cat like a USB device or a PTP device. I find that when I choose usb, it works as you would expect. I haven't gotten the PTP mode to work, but then I don't really have any reason to. I would try to tell the camera to act like a USB device in its setup, if it has that option. HTH Mark

To my regret cccccanon A510 dosn't have mode for swithing between PTP and STORAGE mode. What is the strange following message, what is setting that refusing to register new USB device? Jan 20 22:52:28 ync /etc/hotplug.d/usb/50-usb.hotplug[7550]: refusing to add /proc/bus/usb/002/003 as you see I cann't mount the camera because there is no any information in /proc/bus/usb after camera has plugged in.

Try to auto-detect it with the digiKam program. I found that the version that come with suse-10.0 works pretty flawlessly with my canon A620. The version that came with suse-9.0 did not work at all for me. I don't know which version is included in suse-9.3. There is one more issue here: When I try to read the SD card with a card reader, I get broken data. But this is the same with windows. Looks like canon don't use the FAT format properly.
