Ah cool, that makes sense. I was curious if it made a difference since oS sees the original disks as "/dev/sda" and "/dev/sdb", but the partitions from the aggregate device from the fake raid are shown as /dev/mapper/[something] (Sorry if you got this twice, I forgot to make the email plain text the first time, so had to resend it cause it got rejected the first time.) That's the third case. In the past fake raid was configured using device-mapper; now preferred interface is mdadm. You see, it is not as trivial as it looks like :)

I do agree - it would be much easier if "fake raid" worked at least similarly enough to "real raid" that the individual drives weren't seen by the underlying OS. If that were the case, I'd be running VMWare on this box and oS as a guest, but VMWare doesn't seem to support fake raid ;) Chris
