Is there any good genealogical software for GNU/Linux? I've been doing a lot of genealogical research and have noticed there are some standard formats for the data, as well as some tools available. Does anybody have any suggestions? TIA, Steven of the family Hattonen, i.e., Hatto von Reichenau und Mainz
I've built and installed this and it works - at least the test examples - on SuSE 6.4 through http://localhost:8080/ I've written and compiled my servlet. But... can anyone tell me where I put the servlet so that I can get it to run through an HTTP request? Sorry if the question is a bit moronic. JDL

Well, you _are_ doing an HTTP request. Tomcat implements a simple HTTP server on port 8080, and that is what you are going through. If you want to use port 80, you can either do it via Apache, or configure Tomcat to run the http server on port 80. There are docs on the Jakarta/Tomcat website that describe how to do this. -ronc
Check out Geneweb on Daniel de RAUGLAUDRE's site. It's Linux'ed by default,
customable, handles multiple languages, shareable databases, easy to use,etc
and best of all GREAT!

I have known Lifelines for some time, which has the Gedcom format (known to every genealogy program) as its basis. Strong points are it's genealogical charts (in postscript) and reports. See: http://lifelines.sourceforge.net/ SH

Check out Freshmeat and sourceforge. If there is any such software, then those are two good places to look for it. You might also want to search google.
