[SLE] How to get StartOffice 5.1 or 5.2 to work stable?
Hi, I'm taking a laptop to a conference and want to use Staroffice to make my presentation. I installed SuSE 6.4 in the laptop and XFree 3.3.6. I've tried 5.1 and it crashes. I've tried 5.2 from the Sun ftp site and it not only crashes by takes the X server with it. Are there patches or hints on how to get it to work properly? URLs will be appreciated. I understand SuSE 7.0 will include Startoffice 5.2. The beta version from SuSE includes it, but only in the German language, is there a English version? if so where can I get it. Thanks. -- Rafael Herrera Laboratory for Computational Neuroscience University of Pittsburgh http://www.neuronet.pitt.edu/~raffo -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Hi Rafael, I have had very little problems with either SO 5.1 or 5.2. I find it far more stable on Linux than MS Office on Windows NT. That said, when/ where does it crash. Can the symtoms be reproduced? 5.2 crashed the first time I run it after installing. Then it crashed shortly after starting using the presentations application. There were kernel virtual memory errors when that happened, startoffice and the X server were killed and I was out at the login panel. -- Rafael Herrera Laboratory for Computational Neuroscience University of Pittsburgh http://www.neuronet.pitt.edu/~raffo -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Rafael, Just a thought I'm running SuSE 6.3 with StarOffice 5.2 without any major problems. I have noticed 5.2 is a bit slower to start than 5.1 but appears to be a bit more stable. Most crashes I have had, have been caused by complex Excel spreadsheets or Word Documents not importing properly. I dont think I have had a problem with SO 5.2 since I installed it. It may be worth a trying SuSE 6.3 with SO 5.2.. Regards Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------- On 01-Aug-2000 Rafael E. Herrera wrote:

I reinstalled SO 5.2 without Java and still crashed. I can't mess with it any more. I'm using WP2000 and it seems more stable. -- Rafael Herrera Laboratory for Computational Neuroscience University of Pittsburgh http://www.neuronet.pitt.edu/~raffo -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
