Buying a wireless PCMCIA card
I have a Compaq laptop. I'm going to buy a PCMCIA wireless network card, but I've heard that some cards (Linksys comes to mind) have a chip which resists anyone writing a driver. What are some safe cards to use? -- Coronation, n.: The ceremony of investing a sovereign with the outward and visible signs of his divine right to be blown skyhigh with a dynamite bomb. -- Ambrose Bierce, "The Devil's Dictionary"
Having become the local expert on the Netgear MA521
(pretty good deal at BestBuy too) ;-), I recommend you
buy this one. I have already posted a detailed email
with instructions on how to get it to work a few days
ago. If you follow the instructions you can have it up
and running in 30 minutes. Works great!
enjoy.

I just bought an Orinoco/Proxim PCMCIA combo card 802.11b/g. It was automatically detected by Yast2 without any problem. I still haven't tried to use it to communicate, because I'm waiting for the new AP, but so far, everything seems ok. Just my newbie 0,02€ :)

There are already ORiNOCO cards that support 802.11G. I said in a previous post that I already bought a Combo card 802.11b/g If that card is available in Portugal, it must be available almost everywhere else! Check the link http://www.proxim.com/products/all/orinoco/11g/index.html They even have a 802.11a/b/g combo card. Filipe Joel Almeida
