[opensuse] 13.2Q: gcc 4.8 vs. 4.9
Many programs seem to require 'gcc' (duh), but it seems it is only provided by gcc-4.8-7.1.2.x86_64.rpm. That package then requires: gcc48-4.8.3+r212056-2.2.4.x86_64.rpm -- but that seems to be the "4.8" version of gcc49-4.9.0+r211729-2.1.7.x86_64.rpm There doesn't seem to be a gcc-4.9 (or I'm missing it in my downloaded set of packages)... So why no gcc-4.9 to go with the "gcc49" series, and how did 13.2 end up with both a gcc48 and gcc49, and a 'gcc-4.8' that seems to only use (or require gcc48)? I.e. gcc49 seems to have multiple bug-fixes and a few new features (though I couldn't list them off the top of my head)...so I have wanted to use gcc49...but sometimes have issues with some packages being dependent on "plain" -- unversioned "gcc" which seems to only exist in the gcc-4.8 rpm. Should I just recompile the source for gcc-4.8 and change it's prereq to gcc49-4.9 instead of gcc48-4.8 (I'm sure that even suggesting that is heresy, but ... how to get from point 'gcc' -> 'using gcc49'? Tnx? Linda p.s. - Trying to get package dependencies to match up with ~1/3rd are in pkgconfig and others are to older versions of rpm's is more than a bit tedious... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
