Intel Chipset graphics?
Having spent hours now trying to get a decent graphics resolution on a Toshiba M-45. The graphics are the Intel Graphic media Accelerator 900. I have selected i810 ( as instructed) and cannot get a resolution of 1280X800 to work with the LCD. It defaulted back to vesa freamebuffer at 800x600. I have tried editing xorg.conf and adding i810 and the proper resolution and modes also. Sax2 will not let me use anything other than framebuffer. Does anyone know if I need the Intel drivers? I thought they are already part of SuSE. Thanks
I've found the best way to problem solve X is to edit the XF86Config file directly and check the log for clues. I did this very thing myself last night to get 1200x800 resolution to work on my laptop (yes 1200 instead of 1280) I was able to get the resolution right away using nvidia's driver and adding correct modes / modeline. The problem comes in trying to get correct dpi (X,X) where both sides are the same. I have (98,96) right now which is as close as I could get. (when the numbers don't match, the screen stretches things). Once I setup the proper resolution, adjusting the modeline is what changes the dpi. Hope this helps B-) On Friday 21 January 2005 03:37 pm, Thom Nuzum wrote:

You can have whatever DPI you want by setting 'DisplaySize' in 'Section "Monitor"' in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (XF86Config), Xft.dpi in /etc/X11/Xresources, and if you use Gnome, running gnome-control-center to configure ~/.gtkrc. I have since recompiled the kernel for dri agpgart and various intel chipsets i830 i815 and so on. I cannot get anything but framebuffer accepted, yet I know the 900 uses i810 driver. I get always screens not found. I have tried every LCD and Intel driver combination in sax2 and the downloaded intel drivers complain of missing kernel modules (dri etc) which I had added to kernel. Anybody got an idea? seems this graphic system may be too new. Thanks
