[opensuse] 11.3: Really old nvidia driver not in repo?
All, I'm trying to install the nvidia driver for an old card I have. Per http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers I need to install x11-video-nvidia, but that's not available in the 11.3 nvidia repo. (x11-video-nvidiaG01 and x11-video-nvidiaG02 are there). Is my card just too old? Greg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
All,

You're right, not in the 11.3 repo. I also noticed that with SDB page has 1-Click installs for each driver version under "11.3, 11.2, 11.2, 11.0" - and those installation scripts all point to the 11.2 repo, which at least in the past would be wrong (except obviously for 11.2). IIRC Stefan Dirsch is the packager and maintains these repo's. His HowTo linked at the bottom of the SDB page includes instructions for 11.3 using the repo's, and indicates that the legacy driver rpm is in the repo. So I suspect that somewhere the ball has been dropped, and it's not being there is unintentional and will probably get resolved. So my first suggestion would be to query Stefan. Or submit a bug. Since this may just be a temporary oversight, my second suggestion would be to just compile the driver yourself; this would probably be your quickest solution. Stefan's HowTo has instructions, as does the "Hard Way" link on the SDB page. Don't forget to first install the dependencies, and to run the installation script from runlevel 3. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
