[opensuse] KMail on 12.3
Hi all. I'm still running openSUSE 11.4 because the last time I attempted an upgrade to 12.1, it ended in tears where KMail2 was such a surprise, particularly how it got so bundled with Akonadi and friends. I ended up reverting to 11.4 and have been there since then. However, I can't help but feel like I'm not enjoying any advances in KMail and other applications on openSUSE, given I'm on a release that is no longer being supported. My main issue is KMail. Does anyone know whether the migration from KMail on 11.4 to KMail on 12.3 is now behaving? One issue I saw was some kind of problem between how KMail and KWallet are integrated in 12.3. Any useful feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks. Cheers, Mark. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Wrong: it is supported. <https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Evergreen> - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. I don't know, it seems to work, but then I seldom use it even though its there. I have it configured, but, and can switch back and forth to any of several mail programs, but it really doesn't hold a candle to Thunderbird any more. I just can't get excited about it. With IMAP mail servers I can compare the same account on multiple different email programs. (Almost all of them wrap mail better than what ever you are using by the way). The Kwallet and Akonadi problems seem a thing of the past, as they cause me no current problems even when I use Kmail. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

When I installed 12.1 and had problems with mail, I finally decided to quit using KMail. Comparing to Thunderbird that is happily updating and using same configuration and mailboxes for 10 years, or more, KMail was a problem on each new installation. Unlike Thunderbird that requires only once to learn process how to move data and configuration directories, and after that just apply that, KMail was changing few times this transition process, each time requiring to learn new quirks, and each time there was need to restore some of configuration details by hand. That culminated with practically unsolvable problems when Akonadi and its database was introduced in 12.1 without working tools to import old emails. As I used KMail just because of integration with other KDE stuff, that was enough and I looked for something that can replicate old KMail1 behavior. There are multiple choices, and I stopped at Claws Mail. Considering transition during new openSUSE release, it is exactly the same as Thunderbird. Copy configuration and emails, and you can continue using it like before. No Google search for quirks, no manual configuration. Obviously I use both, Claws Mail is used for openSUSE and Thunderbird for the rest. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

:-) You mean just copy the .thunderbird dir? How complicated is that. I too use TBird But also opera now more than ever. It's the same easy .opera dir to keep everything safe between installs and different machines. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
