scp and sftp question
Hi, all: I want to use secure ftp to log into a hosting server, and get and put files. To find out how to do this, and get set up, I looked around, but didn't see anything obvious. I checked the manual for SuSE7.0, the HOWTO's, and even surfed a little at google. Still not clear. I browsed the Yast2 list and didn't see what I thought I wanted to see. So, my question is, do I install an SSH module, set up PGP or Gpgp, or just what is suggested? I'm in Reno, NV, if that makes a difference. TIA Tom
OpenSSH package only has scp, not sftp. scp is command line, sftp is interactive. It sounds like what you need. The security/crypto stuff is on the german SuSE FTP site, ftp.sus.de in /pub/suse/i386/update/7.0/sec1. It is like most daemons, there is a controller script, /sbin/init.d/sshd, to start and stop it, symlinks in /etc/rc.d/rc*.d to start/stop it on boot/halt. OpenSSH (as of v 2.3) supports sftp too (on the server side). See FAQ on www.openssh.com -Kastus
