[opensuse] HiRO H50070 NIC

I have to buy a low profile NIC for my new firewall. I came across this one and was wondering if anyone here has had experience with it. The specs lists Linux as supported. tnx jk http://www.hiroinc.com/product_details.php?item_id=21 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No experience with it, but it looks very similar to a Netgear FA311 or Dlink DFE 530TX. Slightly old fashioned with the large DIL-28 socket for the boot-prom. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (22.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yup, forgot to mention that that is also sat on the two cards I mentioned. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (22.1°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have this: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-82541PI-Gigabit-Ethernet-SOFTWARE/dp/B00D63W7MM Works flawlessly with the e1000 driver module. Since at least openSUSE12.1. Check out any Intel you find, but be sure to (let someone) check if the driver e1000(e) supports the chip, as Intel updates those often. HTH, -dnh -- I'm sorry. I wound up with this one: http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=270_TEG-PCITXRL I needed a low profile card for this computer. There's a much larger selection of regular profile NICs. I have a spare 100 Mb NIC, but it's not low profile. A low profile 100Mb NIC could be had for about $10, but this one cost $17 for a gigabit. I don't really need gigabit, as this NIC will be facing my cable modem, which provides 35 Mb, but it's possible I could go faster in the future. IIRC, my ISP provides up to about 300 Mb. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As far as I can tell, it only supports NDIS drivers (binary blob) on linux. That is less than optimum. Only by looking at the picture and zooming it up can you see that there appears to be some RTL nic chip on it, most of which are supported, but still, its claiming to have latest technology, and supporting Windows ME for pete sake. I'd see if I could get the exact chipset before I ordered it. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
