[opensuse] 10.0 -> 10.1 Upgrade Issues
Just upgraded from 10.0 to 10.1 and am running into a couple of confusing issues maybe someone can help me with. I used the remastered 10.1 DVD for the install, X86_64 version. 1) pin can't seem to locate ARCHIVES_10.1.gz on the DVD. There seems to be an ARCHIVES.gz file there, is it safe to copy that file over to /var/lib/pin and move on? 2) I can't get phpMyAdmin to install, the upgrade blew away the previously installed version, but refuses to install the DVD version with the message 'there are no installable providers of pwgen'. Since my pin isn't working, anyone got any idea what it wants? 3) Did something change about mounted DVDs/CDs? I have the install DVD in the drive, and I can see a symlink in /media lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2006-11-25 17:59 SU1010_001 -> /media/cdrecorder/ But an ls of /media/cdrecorder displays an empty directory. Now, if I open 'My Computer', it displays the contents of the DVD fine under media:/hdc , so is there some weird automounting/unmounting going on that I'm not understanding? Yeah, that's changed, but give it time, it will grow on you. It seems pretty smart, always loading something in the same place in /media regardless of the order things were plugged in (in the case of external devices). As far at pwgen, Novell says its supposed to be on the DVD here: /suse/x86_64/pwgen-2.05-10.x86_64.rpm But you might want to go to install sources and add one of the suse repositories. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

Hope so, I spend most of the time in a konsole terminal session, having to go to the desktop and open 'My Computer' to have the drive contents show up is a pain.... On the other stuff, adding the installation sources got me pwgen (must not be on the DVD ISO) and that allowed phpMyAdmin to be reinstalled. For pin, I went ahead and copied ARCHIVES.gz from the DVD to /var/lib/bin/ARCHIVES_10.1.gz and fixed the symlink ARCHIVES.gz to point to it. Seems to work fine now. Thanks! Other than these minor issues, the upgrade was pretty painless! Yes. There is also a different version at the ftp site you can use (it is way larger).

You need to add an external install source in yast: not everything is in the dvd. You will find that many useful programs were deleted during the upgrade because they were not found during the update in the DVD. I have been told that you can add an additional source during the update process, but I haven't tested that. I will for 10.2

Yes, kde and gnome handle that directly, automunting in their own way. If you use another desktop or the console, you have to mount manually (defining the appropriate entry in fstab, which is deleted during the update), or use package... I forgot the name. There is an article about this in the opensuse web somewhere. I use traditional manual mount. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. There is a config.php.rpmnew file, just moving to config.php should help. CIao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
