MPlayer runs great on this "older" 9.2 box. I'm sure it will on your's, too. But you need to supply some context for others to better understand your problem. Examples of context you could supply (framed as questions): You didn't download the rpm by itself and 'force' install it, did you? There are dependencies to meet. Have you met them? Are your system updates current? And is your rpm database consistent and your system otherwise coherent and stable? Is a particular file or file /type/ eliciting the "illegal operation" message? Or will MPlayer just not launch at all? And, you're not trying to launch it as root, are you? ;-) There are endless others, but I'm sure you get the idea. Your problem is described so vaguely, with so little detail, it is hard to know where to start trying to help. regards, - Carl

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with using packman's site as a source in YaST. I manually selected and downloaded his rpm's for a while and resolved dependencies in that process. Now I have his repository in my apt sources.list file, so I don't often deal directly with the dependencies. What packages, exactly, did you install this way? Full package names, which include version info, would be very helpful at this point. - Carl P.S.: My apologies for sending the original reply directly to you and not the list... my 'twitchy' send finger appears to have struck again!
