Hello. I've just installed 8.0 and I can't finure out how to configure inetd.conf so that I can ftp and telnet into it. I setup services just as before, but I'm deneyed access. What's up? Also, while I'm asking questions, how do I setup for a text-mode login? I'm starting to miss YaST. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER1@MN.RR.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE

Inetd does not run by default. You need to go into YaST2 / System / Runlevel Editor / Click the Runlevel properties button and activate inetd for the runlevels you want (usually 2,3,5). You also need to edit the /etc/inetd.conf file to make sure only the services you need are uncommented.

There are several ways to do this. Maybe the official way is go back to where you were above and on the first screen where it says "Set default run level after boot to:", select "3: Full multiuser with network". I prefer to edit my /etc/inittab directly and tell YaST2 to leave it alone :^) Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net

Perhaps you need to edit /etc/hosts.allow? Although I really do recommend installing xinetd and ssh and use ssh instead of telnet.

yast->system->Sysconfig Editor-> Base Administration -> Login Alternatively, but do read the warnings: yast->system->Runlevel Editor.
