Running Tumbleweed. And Firefox. For a while, I was able to get FF to open in Google, but now it has reverted to the OpenSuse screen. This is a PITA! When I click on the FF icon, I want it to open in Google, because right after I click on the icon, I start typing the question, and it turns out that the Suse screen doesn't know anything about that and I have to type it over again. How do I get back so the icon opens in Google? Thanx--doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Firefox. Menu -> Edit -> Preferences -> Type "homepage" in resulting searchbox. Then write your preferred home page in the resulting box :-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I know I've been here a long time, but I don't know what a "homepage" is. I just boot up (for a long time--days or more--) and just use the machine. When I boot up, it comes up to a desktop with icons I have loaded, including Firefox. For FF, the resulting screen is, I guess, my homepage. Well I don't want my resulting screen to be Suse, I want my resulting screen to be Google. What is the command to make that happen? And will it resist upgrades? I think that was the problem. I hope I have made this clear, but if not, I apologize. Thanx, folks! --doug

Google is your home page. Currently it is suse. The command is not a command, it is a setting. You change the homepage setting from "suse" to "google" as I described yesterday. You type there "https://www.google.com". - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Chuckling... That is a PITA. Two choices: (1) easy way - start FF. The openSUSE page opens. Type google in the address bar and go to google. Click the Menu->Settings. Then you will see: *Homepage* about 1/2 down the first screen, click the [Use Current] button and it will fill in the URL for google for you. (done) (2) just as easy way. (same open FF, switch to google), then right-click the tab and choose "Pin Tab". That will change the wide tab into a narrow tab, and by default FF restores pinned tabs on startup. Any problems, drop a reply -- we'll get you sorted out. -- David C. I'm sorry, but what tab do I right click on? The only menu thing I can find is the three bar thing to the far right of the window that says Search <Ctrl+K> and that menu doesn't have Pin tab or anything like it. It does not have "settings" in the list of possibilities, either. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It does. Method 1. Click on that 3 bar menu. At line 11 you get "Preferences", another word for "Settings". Method 2. Go to the top of the window. Then go one line below, where the "Inbox" tab is, but *right* click outside of the tab. A little context menu appears, and one of the 3 entries is to activate the menu. Once done, you can see the menu "edit" and there is "Preferences". -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

The settings are actually Menu-> Edit-> Preferences. (and it is preferences under the Hamburger too - that's what they call that 3 horizontal line button that you can use without pressing the Alt key to unhide the menu - I always thought that was a dumb name for it) The tab you right-click on to pin that tab is the normal tab for that page at the top of the browser window. I don't know what else to call it. When I open up a page or multiple-pages I have about a 1.5 inch-wide tab at the top that shows the name of the page. Right-click that and choose "Pin-tab" if you go that route. Let me know if you are stuck again -- we get it figured out. -- David C.
