The SuSE install defaults to 4096 regarding inode size. Would I recover loads of hard drive space by reducing this to 2048 or 1024? As with most things, it depends ;) If you are running something like a dedicated news servers, where there are likely to be lots of little text files, then it may be to your benefit to format the disk where the news spool would reside to have 1k or 2k inodes. On the flip side, if you don't need such small inodes, the theory went that you could incur a lot of overhead as the disk tries to read 2-4 times as many inodes. In otherwords, would you save space? Possible, but probably not enough to be worth the trouble.
