Hey all, This is only slightly OT, as it also has to do with Mac OS X, but also deals with SuSE 8.2 on my machine :) I am looking for a word processor that has ports for SuSE 8.2, and also Mac OS X that supports input of Japanese characters and doesn't have a steep learning curve. The reason? A friend of mine in the US of A is at a summer school and needs to write documents in Japanese [as that is the whole point of the school ;)] but they only "support" Microsoft Word [they have a plugin for that] and she can't afford to spend an arm and a leg on Office for Mac OS X. I also need to run the aforementioned software on SuSE 8.2, and so am looking for something that can handle this. Oh, and quickly too ;) So, anyone have any ideas? Thank you for your time :)

I think Staroffice has support for Japanese but you might want to ask on suse-linux-ja, the Japanese suse-linux list. -- -ckm

OpenOffice.org, free from http://www.openoffice.org/

Not everything is obvious; Haugland & Jones' book *OpenOffice.org 1.0 resource kit* is probably worth the money. Chances are high that your friend will have to deal with MS Word files; OOo can handle these easily. However, before you get too excited, please read the small print about the Mac OS X version at http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ooo-osx_downloads.html
