MythTV from suser-scrute
I have installed the rpms from teh ftp.gwdg.de server seen no the opensuse web site, but it seems incomplete and I am not sure what needs to be done after install. First, the mythtv group was not created, so I did, then the run_dir variable in the mythtvbackend script was not found, so I hard coded /var/run in its place. Now it complains that /etc/rc.d/functions does not exist, and no it does not. What can I do about that one? -- Robert

To repeat myself from an earlier MythTV posting on this very list... "One final suggestion. If you're having trouble doing it all yourself, try the RPM's available from: http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/apt/suse/ I tried them once, but I must be a masochist, as I still chose to do the whole build myself." Just to add that they worked without too much head scratching as I recall. -- Steve Boddy

I see that server only has the rpms for 9.3, I am running 10.0....I also viewed a docs some time ago about MythTV setting up easier on 9.3 vs 10.0. So, is it recommended to install 9.3 and use these packages on the site you suggested? I just don't have the time to build manually, I will wait for good packages if that is what it takes. Thanks for the help. -- Robert

Umm... Yes it does: http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/apt/suse/10.0-olsen/RPMS.Olsen/ BTW, I subscribe to the list, so there's no need to "To:" me /and/ "CC:" the list. -- Steve Boddy

Sorry, assumed Olsen meant something else since all the others were labeled mythtv. That link does not seem to work as a YaST source, what is the best way to install all the packages? Yum? Also, those MythTV rpms previously installed are not marked 'Protected' in YaST, should these be removed prior to trying these other packages? -- Robert

Well from the folder structure I believe they are set up for apt. I didn't like that idea, as I've always tried to use YaST. I beleive instead, I just d/l'd the whole folder then did a: # rpm -Uhv *.rpm or something similar.

Yes. lways best to avoid multiple instances of software installs. -- Steve Boddy

There are 10.0 rpms, I used them. Also, take a look at this guide, it was really easy: http://www.acaciaclose.co.uk/index2.html -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)
