-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm curious. We have those weather applet, which you configure with the name of a city and it periodically interrogates a server and displays the current temperature, wind etc at the place. We can have a few of those for info on some cities nearby. Now, what I wonder, is if there is some type of small weather map on which we configure the cities we are interested on, their positions, and we get their weather conditions on that area of interest. Does it exist? Of course, I know there are web pages that may have that kind of info, but that's rather "heavy handed". - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAklmtFgACgkQtTMYHG2NR9WV+wCfZEpIl4lWPb0XFP3sHKkr/AAC UPMAn3zLRXG7qiQaH5CrTyj7zQbbx7nQ =CSJx -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm not sure I see how you could have a map that isn't heavy handed, they're generally big things :) However, this is a Java applet that does something like what you're asking for. It's from NOAA, for pilots. http://adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov/metars/java/ (Who says Java applets aren't useful :) You could embed it somewhere other than a browser I suppose, though I've never looked at how that would be achieved. Interesting...

I'll try to sketch what I'm thinking of. city 1 10ºC city 2 cloudy 12ºC very cloudy city 4 8ºC few clouds city 3 15ºC Rainy But instead of letters, having the same icons we get in the weather applet, and clickable to get the details. The map behind can be plain grey or a fixed bitmap. This, of course, could be improved as much as the programmer wants... it could even be a bitmap to be used as desktop wallpaper, updated now and then. It's just a kind of improvement on the panel weather applets we have. I'm thinking I could perhaps programm it myself, if sufficiently bored. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Does not really provide what you are after but it might be worth looking at what the UK met office is doing in their Firefox plugin. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/gadgets/index.html Of course UK only... but maybe the Spanish equivalent is providing something.... - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
