[opensuse] Network Printing to Active Directory
One thing I've never been quite able to get working from my laptops is network printing. I have openSUSE 10.3 right now on a given laptop. (Another one is in the box, ready to be installed with 11.0 or possibly SLED.) I am on the corporate network in that I have a DHCP lease on an IP address and get through to the intraweb on all available ports. I can also use konqueror to connect remote shares using smb://username@ip.address/share Now, I want to print to the various network printers we have. I've looked and cannot seem to get a straight answer. How do I setup either KPrinter or CUPS to print to a remote printer on an active directory network? -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

konqueror and nautilus use libsmbclient

I never used Kprinter to get this working. While using a local CUPS to spool the print job smbspool is used to pass the job to the destination. But the plain smbspool isn't allowed to use the TGT of the printing user. Please intall the samba-krb-printing package. The package %post script changes the sym link /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb to /usr/bin/get_printing_ticket a set uid root binary. Okay, I'm closer. Thanks. I managed to install the printer using the URL in CUPS. smb://user:pass@workgroup/server/sharename In my case it is a HP Color LaserJet 5500 and I used... smb://vims\e515421:w0rtZumS0nntag@sprint3/TechServColor17702 However, when sending the test page, I keep getting the message that the printer is stopped.
Description: Technical Services Color Location: Tech Services Make and Model: HP Color LaserJet 5500 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.1 Printer State: stopped, accepting jobs, published. Device URI: smb://sprint3/TechServColor17702
Every time I restart it, it just goes back to a "stopped" state. Ideas? -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Okay, I went into YaST and checked the printer there. I tested using the test button and got the following message: There was a problem. You specified an invalid queue name on the printer server, the print server does not accept print jobs, or the queue on the print server does not accept print jobs. Maybe the DNS and NetBIOS names differ? Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SuSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
