[opensuse] sendmail | postfix seem compulsory
Hi, I'm trying to uninstall sendmail via YaST, when I do it installs postfix as a required dependency. when I then try to uninstall postfix, Yast indicates sendmail must be installed..... so the circle goes. Any suggestions how I can track down what is causing this? Then hopefully I can remove it, and uninstall sendmail/postfix. Thanks Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't think the system is happy without some sort of MTA - why do you want all MTAs removed from your system BTW? Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK, I worked out what to do: /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --remove mta /usr/bin/mailx Then I was able to install ssmtp and send an email. I'm still not able to unistall sendmail|postfix, but at least they are no longer stopping me use ssmtp. Cheers Mark

Good to know - I've been using postfix so long that it just seems natural, but it's good to have a choice in the matter. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
