Re: [SLE] What is it, Why, How? Galeon Multiplies
Thank u very much those who suggest me solutions but i am not able to login to my Suse Linux system anymore.
The reason is system stop at "Hardware Scan"
I thought i am not patient enough but last night i left it rebooting and went to sleep, when i woke up it was still doing "hardware scanning" it was almost 10 hours.
How could i stop hardware scanning on system start up?

Yes, I've had the same problem. But I found out that if you try to close the windows fast enough -- just click at the X at the upper right corner of the windows as fast as you can -- Galeon stops. This spooky behavior happened twice, and always after I've been logged in as root and done something web-related -- once I happened to start and configure Galeon, but another time I think I just previewed a HTML-file. Anyhow, I didn't have a clue what to do, so I simply re-installed the lot, and this time I've been _very_ careful when beeing logged in as root: I've not started Mozilla or Galeon or even looked at an HTML-file.
And so far... everything works fine.

Hi everyone, Last couple of days Galeon web brovser keep opening new browsers. It opens faster than i close it. It is opening new windows almost a second or less. I am not able to open also configuration file or any other program. Because Galeon pups-up continuesly. I am not able to catch the openings because it just add up more windows than i close. I have suspect that it is a kind virus or a script which is hiding behing the Galeon but i don't know how to prevent it in Linux. It opened over 200 windows and i shut the system off manually. Does anybdy had same or similar problems. My system is Suse 8.2 kernel 4.20 And my computer is dual boot w2k BTW i had the same problem both in KDE and Gnome desktop. any help or suggestion appreciated.

Boot with the rescue system, and rename /etc/rc.d/hwscan to /etc/rc.d/hwscan.bak -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

emin As root "inssrv -r hwscan" without the quotes.

Yast2 Control Center, System, Runlevel Editor, Runlevel properties (defaults to the runlevel you are currently in), highlight hwscan in the list, click the Set/Reset button and choose disable the service, click Finish and OK when it tells you the new runlevel settings were saved. Stan
