Loads of problems upgrading to 2.4.18-10GB
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello I replaced my Suse 7.3 kernel to 2.4.18-10GB as recommended in the security announcements. It has been a disaster. After some tidying up initial problems (I could not boot because the instructions forgot to remind me to create a new boot floppy; once I solved that, startx was not working), I have 3 remaining problems: (a) My USB keyboard does not work, so I am using a borrowed regular keyboard at the moment. I suppose the problem is that there is no usbkbd.o module in the drivers like there was in 2.4.10-10GB. It is in the source, so how do I compile it? Any other missing dependencies? (b) My scanner is no longer detected. If I do scanimage -L, I get: No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). In the xconsole I get: Dec 21 23:19:16 linux kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout Dec 21 23:19:16 linux kernel: scanner.c: write_scanner: NAK received. Also I get this at start up in xconsole, which I think is my scanner: Dec 21 22:48:10 linux kernel: usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x49f/0xe) is not claimed by any active driver. If I do lsmod, I can see scanner.o is present. (c) Windows on my KDE3.1.4 desktop runs slightly off the right hand edge. It means the "X" to close the wndow is just off the screen, which is very annoying, though not as serious as the other 2 problems. It is like the system thinks my screen is bigger than it is. Any ideas what to do? Any help appreciated. If not a solution to the above, how do I get back to using my old kernel? I have the lib diretcory for it still and also the sources. the security problem was probably no big deal for my PC as my firewall rules keep all externally-originated traffic out.
