Amarok tries to copy stream and never plays it

I have a rather annoying issue with amarok. Whenever I try to play a stream (whether launched via a browser or from the stream tab) a copying window pops up and tries to copy the stream as a file. The copy obviously never finishes. Why are the streams trying to be saved to a tmp file and not played directly?

I had the same problem on 9.2. The SuSE rpm seems to be broken. I compiled the latest release of amarok and it works fine (I'm listening somafm on it right now :) ). I built an rpm so if you want I can e-mail it directly to you or put it up on the web (which is probably a better idea). Brana

Here it is: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/brana7/linux.html I put a couple of other rpms I made for other applications I use. I also put a little disclaimer. I don't have too much experience in building rpms so I can't guarantee their quality (dependencies, upgrades...) but they work fine on my installation of 9.2. Let me know if you have any problems. Have fun, Brana

Thanks Brana. Yes, I should have pointed out I was using 9.2. I'll be glad to see this packaged officially updated by SUSE.

No problem. Let me know if the rpm worked for you. By the way, amarok is really great. Brana

Your rpm seems to work fine. I had to install some gstreamer plugins though. And i've lost all the visualisations. Any ideas? Amarok is brilliant, i agree :)

I spent a lot of time today trying to compile amaroK with libvisual (the library needed for the visualisations) without success. First, it seems that there is a bug in amaroK since libvisual.cpp calls a function (visual_event_queue_add_mousebutton) with two arguments missing. I tried older versions of libvisual and this only happens with the latest release of libvisual so amarok probably requires the older versions. To use the newest version of libvisual I fixed this by hand but then it still wouldn't compile with a linker error complaining that it couldn't wind lslang. I have slang installed and I don't understand why the linker doesn't see it. The slang problem showed up with every version of libvisual I tried. From google it seems that this problem might have to do with SuSE. I am out of ideas (and time) on this one. If anybody gets this to work let me know. Sorry Andrew, I guess no visualisations for now.
