Hi, I have SUSE Linux 9.3 as my OS. Recently I cannot enter my all desktop system (KDE or anything else) My last screen on SUSE is a login screen (GUI), but when I enter user & password it just shows clock icon... and then back to the login screen again. It happen all the time. What's the problem ?? How can I troubleshoot this ?? Many Thanks, Feris

When you have a problem such as this, the first thing to do is see if it affects one user or all. If you've only got one user, other than root, create another. Root is not suitable for this type of test, because of the differences from regular users.

i had this issues once. somehow the permisions of your $HOME changed. check that and see

Log in using a text terminal, and check if the file .xinitrc is in your home directory. If not, that's your problem. There should also be a file .xinitrc.template which you can copy to .xinitrc (notice the dot before xinitrc). It should be executable. Exit the text terminal, and try to login to KDE again. HTH.
