Installing Wordperfect Office 2000 on 7.1
Hi, a question addressed to WPO2000 users: according to the FAQ at http://linux.corel.com/support/html/9400.htm, there are quite a few things that could cause problems with the installation on several distributions, for which adaptions to the standard installation have to be made. There is an install script that was tested on SuSE 7.0, but for 7.1 quite a few things appear to be different. Did anyone install WPO2000 successfully on 7.1? If so, what adaptions had to me made in this case? TIA, SH
Dear Sjoerd,
In my experience, it _is_ possible to use Corel's installation script for
SuSE 7.0 with SuSE 7.1.
However, it omits to create the relevant entries for WordPerfect Office
within the KDE2 pop-up application menu. Corel is currently unforthcoming
with details on how to create them manually, although it's easy enough to
launch the applications from the command line.
Depending on how your printer was originally configured, something else to
bear in mind is that the default printer option in WPO's Print dialog box
('[System Default] lp1') may cause raw postscript to be despatched to the
lp-ascii print buffer, resulting in the output of apparent garbage. To get
rid of it, it's necessary to open up klpq, clear the relevant print job(s),
and log out and log back in again (thus restoring the print daemon).
Other Print dialog options I've learned to avoid are 'lp1, WINEPS' and
'lp4, WINEPS'. The first dumps its output to lp-ascii, the second to
lp-raw.
Selecting 'lp2, WINEPS' or 'lp3, WINEPS' resolves the problem. It probably
arises because WPO assumes 'lp0' to be the default, whereas (as in my case)
it may actually be an alias for lp-ascii.
I've reverted to using StarOffice 5.2 -- it's simply far more stable than
WPO2000 running under Corel's custom-modified version of WINE. An updated
authorized version of WINE is available from the Corel website, but if truth
be told WPO is most stable run in its original Windows version within an
emulator.

I have to agree. I ran WPO 2000 on SuSE 6.4 and it had some unplesant bugs. Furthermore Quattro Pro was unstable when you tried to modify graphs based on spreadsheet data. It's unfortunate that Corel did not do a better job on this.
An updated authorized version of WINE is available from the Corel website, but if truth be told WPO is most stable run in its original Windows version within an emulator.

Hi All, Michael & Sjoerd, well, I went off to Corel online & got the updated install script, for SuSE 7.0 & it installed the office Suite OK, but the video looked horrid. So I then installed Photo-Paint, with the WINE updates & newer font things. But, as ever, the menus did not appear on our wee "K" buttons in KDE-2, but they DO in KDE-1!!!! Dunno where I found this info, but copy data from /usr/X11R6/share/applnk/Applications into /root/.kde2/share/applnk Then, restart KDE-2 & there ya go, Office 2000 is where it should be. I am hand updating some of the icon data. I needed to force some installs of the Wine updates (in the Photo-Paint sub dr tree someplace, I copied them to another directory, then....), using brute force rpm, viz rpm -Uvh *.rpm --nodeps --force Also, adding.... FontPath "tcp/127.0.0.1:7102" to your SaX generated XFree86 config file, helps. Stability? Well, so far ok! But, it has only been this evening :-) Hope that helps somebody else. *BFN* Greek Geek :-) Be sociable. Speak to the person next to you in the unemployment line tomorrow. Michael Carr wrote:

The installation using this script seems to be successful at first glance. Sjoerd, It wouldn't do any harm to address your query directly to James Richard Tyrer on the corel.wpoffice.office2000-linux list, where a 'SuSE 7.1 -- WPO2K Malfunctions' thread is currently active. Michael
Hi Sjoerd, Michael & All, ouch, those install error messages look horrid. The only thing I have to add to Michael's hint of trying the Corel news groups, is that since you purchased this beastie of Corel, registered it, then phone em on whatever part of the planet you are on & action it their too-they at least owe you that! Good luck. *BFN* Greek Geek :-) I like cats too. Let's exchange recipes. Sjoerd Hiemstra wrote:
