Peter, It sounds like you are in zoomed out desktop utility view. Search Google for "KDE 4 desktop activity" for more details. If so your mouse cursor should look like a hand. Click on the checkerboard background and drag it around so that your view reaches the top left corner of the checkerboard surface. In that region you should be able to find a miniature of your desktop with an active "peanut" button in top right corner. Click on the peanut and select "Zoom In". ~/jc peter nikolic wrote:

When you did this, did you also delete the two config files? KDE 4.1.x and 4.2.x have very different config requirements. The config file from one version will totally mess up the desktop of the other (in my experience). The config files are in ~/.kde4/share/config and the two files in question are plasmarc and plasma-appletrc. Pete .
Hi Pete Maybe you could try the kde3 to 4 appliication from here: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KDE3TO4?content=85769 See if that can handle things. Cheers Pete -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Delete or rename.. both will work. You don't really loose much by deleting. This controls teh desktop config, and plasma applet config. If you delete those config files, you force KDE4 back to factory defaults, and the files are rewritten with the defaults. The config between 4.2 and 4.1 is radically different, and it will definitely break when going from 4.1 to 4.2.. so logical that it will break going back as well. Mouse is an arrow head and i can click till i am blue in the face on the desktop nothing happens no peanut device either seems plasma may be dead much as it grieves me think this may well wind up as a re-install of course if they had stuck with the "/opt/kde* idea it would have been easy to just completely can KDE4.x and force a complete reinstall of just that but now they hide the binaries and libs in such diverse places it is getting darn stupid
