You've got to be kidding me - but it appears not! How desperate is M$ getting for revenue. This only proves the point that they're scatching and clawing to grab every dollar they can. If you'ld have mentioned this to an M$ suit they would have most likely gotten a nice bruise or two from when they fell on the floor laughing. Unbelievable! Cheers, Curtis. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+uU5+7WVLiDrqeksRAn2zAJ46DNV/RMgsSX7PoUagW6ft3hlluQCfSqB5 6CUrpBdIRVquVPT/CxQ2gvM= =BbT8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Worse than that, we had an associated news article on our tv last night that ms is about to sign up a toilet paper company over here in Australia to print their logo and url on it's paper. After I picked myself up off the floor, I thought "how appropriate" BUT it would get a lot of attention there. scsijon At 04:20 AM 5/8/03, Curtis Rey wrote:

But like Richard said, Microsoft finally figures out where to put it's software. And appaently it's marketing and advertising as well. This is truely one if those cryptic - read between the lines event. All kidding aside what is this "really" saying? I mean think about it - seriously! Contracting toilet paper manufacturers and distributors to ink a deal to have the worlds most successful and notorious software company print their Logo and other assorted marketing goodies on "toilet paper". Anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together would figure out how this is essentially cannon fodder for any competitor or detractors. Can you imaging what it's was like at the meeting when some guy present this, get it ok'ed - and then send somebody out to get the contracts setup? Ello mate, I represent Microsoft and we are interested in contracting your company to print these logos and message on you toilet paper. And then at home. The man's wife when asked - so what does your husband do? He works for a marketing firm. Really, whats he working on now? He's closing a deal to get Microsoft web addresses and Logos printed on toilet paper, it's part of a new campaign to put wireless access and computers in public loo's! Oh, really!?! Interesting (glazed look). :-/ Anyway you slice it, it just sounds.... well strange. Hmmm. Wonder if M$ will carry through or perhaps "quitely" back out in a bit - - after someone up top gives this a little though. Just strange if you ask me. Ha ha, thats good. But now "catching a virus from Microsoft products" has other implications. I wonder what "fine print license agreement" Microsoft will put on it's EULA for these products? serious thought/realization: once these rolls hit the shelves in supply houses(*), some enterprising young man is going to quietly swipe them and start selling them on e-bay where he'll make a mint from every Linux user on the planet -- admit it: once you see a TP roll of four-color interlocking puzzle pieces, you *know* you're going to want one for the laughs you'll know you'll get around the office or at the next user group meeting... heck, I'll probably order a dozen rolls to have as "door prizes" come next april... ;) Tom (*) I doubt these will be on regular store shelves since the article implies this will be targeted towards "events", so only industrial/supply type places will carry this. Then again, if they've gone this far with their marketing scheme, perhaps they'll show up at the corner market after all... I thought the same thing...that a mess of Linux folk (us) will be buying at least one roll, just for the laugh. But it'd be good if someone 'swipes' them and sells them on E-bay, that way M$ won't actually get the money! LOL John - -- A butterfly is: Pretty,soft,harmless...and useless, just like M$N. In this context, please define the word 'swipe'. :-) (they'd probably sell just as fast... <g>) -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Cheers Curtis.
We're talking about M$ here Curtis...you don't really believe anyone has any 'thoughts' there do you? Someone who works there (Redmond) probably overheard someone from another company talking about doing this thing, and now M$ is going to try to steal *another* idea! More likely get "a disease" off of it. I wouldn't touch a keyboard in a toilet. What are those idiots thinking? -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

Probably something that marketing came up with. After all, if you want to make money off of advertising, a toilet stall is a perfect place to find a capative audience. :) Christopher Reimer

This Just came to my inbox! NETFLASH: BREAKING NEWS FROM NETWORK WORLD FUSION By Michael Cooney Microsoft has gone too far this time. Published reports this week noted that the company was testing a, well, - Internet Outhouse - because, you know, we NEED 'Net access in outdoor bathrooms. Is nothing sacred? Microsoft calls it the "iLoo," in deference to the U.K. where the "portoNet" is being trialed with MSN service. In a nutshell, the iLoo is a portable toilet equipped with wireless access, a wireless keyboard and a plasma screen. A Hotmail station is attached to the outside of the outhouse for those waiting in line (of course). Microsoft says the iLoo will be tested in and around Great Britain this summer at music festivals and the like. And MSN U.K. is negotiating with toilet paper manufacturers for special rolls with Web addresses, or URLs, printed on them (oh, why not). No word on when or if this traveling toilet will flow in the U.S. anytime soon. Cheers, Curtis P.S. Seems you not the only ones to look at this in bewilderment. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+uoqA7WVLiDrqeksRAuMIAKDQHHibMcyuXxOIOY/fpIW9bl29XACgxLS0 ZZ8kr9pwcbxdEhctvwuygi8= =L5Ln -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
