Hello,
I have an old camcorder, DV one, that use IEEE1384/Firewire interface. I also have a 6 years old HP computer that have a IEEE1394 that used to work with openSUSE.
But I didn't use it for at least 4 years now :-(
I can't make it work right now. dvgrab says it do not find the camcorder (connected, on "pause" in reader mode).
I know raw1394 do not exists anymore (does it?) and is replaced by firewireXXX module, but even with modeprobing this module (modprobe firewire-ohci), no luck, same message - no /dev/fw* device
# lsmod | grep fir firewire_ohci 45056 0 firewire_core 73728 1 firewire_ohci crc_itu_t 16384 1 firewire_core
any user here?
thanks jdd
I maintain ffado (libffado2) which uses libraw1394-11 and supplies firewire support for jack for the use of audio equipment so libraw definitely still exists. I see that dvgrab, kinfocenter5 and kdebase4-workspace-addons depend on it so firewire should work with dvgrab. There's a libraw-tools package as well you can maybe find something there. Regards Dave P
Sorry libraw-tools is not related, leap doesn't have libraw1394-tools. You can get it via 1 click install. Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

thanks dave,I installed it, together with other tools and now test1394 sees the card, but not the camcorder what can I do next? I wonder if my 1394 cable is good, I have yet to find my usual cable, lost in my old stuff. I now try a folding one I don't really trust :-( thanks jdd test1394 said this: # testlibraw successfully got handle current generation number: 0 1 card found card 0, name: /dev/fw0 1 nodes on bus, local ID is 0, IRM is 0 - getting speeds between between nodes and local node node 0: S400 (local node) - doing transactions with custom tag handler read from node 0... completed with value 0x4d6c0404 - using standard tag handler and synchronous calls read from node 0... completed with value 0x4d6c0404 - testing FCP monitoring on local node got fcp command from node 0 of 8 bytes: 01 23 45 67 89 ab cd ef got fcp response from node 0 of 8 bytes: 01 23 45 67 89 ab cd ef - topology map: 1 nodes, 1 self ids, generation 5 0x807f8c52 - testing config rom get_config_rom returned 0, romsize 88, rom_version 0 here are the first 10 quadlets: 0x04046c4d 0x31333934 0xf000a262 0x0010dc00 0x01aed793 0x00051b70 0x0c0083c0 0x03001f11 0x81000003 0x17023901 raw1394_update_config_rom failed with error: Function not implemented added unit '0x58595a:0x616263', reverting in 5 seconds unit '0x58595a:0x616263' removed - cycle timer: 57 seconds, 6419 cycles, 929 sub-cycles local time from CLOCK_REALTIME: 1477918883696537 us = Mon Oct 31 14:01:23 2016 cycle timer: 57 seconds, 6420 cycles, 724 sub-cycles local time from CLOCK_MONOTONIC: 575743155 us cycle timer: 57 seconds, 6420 cycles, 951 sub-cycles local time from CLOCK_MONOTONIC_RAW: 575756216 us - posting 0xdeadbeef as an echo request polling for leftover messages raw1394_loop_iterate() returned 0xdeadbeef -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
