Type "./setup". 6) Register. 7) Add the binary directory for Star Office to your path. 8) Run Star Office. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Perry <mperry@basin.com> To: suse-linux-e@suse.com <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Date: Thursday, November 19, 1998 10:57 AM Subject: [SuSE Linux] Instructions needed for Installing SO5 on SuSE 5.3

Good luck with #6. Here's my experience so far with #6: 1.) Start SO5 and warning dialog appears asking me to register now. I answer yes. 2.) Registration box pops up with customer # filled in. (enable button is grayed out) 3.) I type in my personal key and click on register (enable key not being a choice). The registration form pops up, all filled in with my personal information and a choice of "continue" or "online registration". 3a.) Choosing "continue" just creats a letter you can print and mail and a choice of either "print" or "online registration". 3b.) Choosing "online registration" brings up a dialog stating that internet settings must be correct and gives a choice of "internet setings" or "send". Internet settings are correct (I've done this about a dozen times (so far) and the connection with SO always happens) so I click "send". 4.) A connection is made to SO and a form pops up with a registration number. The message thanks me for my registration and advises me of all my benefits as a registered SO user and then a box pops up that says "Registration failed! Try manual and when it failed too, please call support." With all the thousands of people on all platforms dl'ing this free (beer) office suite, I'll pass on calling support. Now, after going throught the above, if I click Help-->Product Information, the dialog that pops up states that "This product is registered to Brendan McEnaney" followed by my customer number and registration key both filled in! However the next time I start the program up I find myself back at #1 above and again, clicking Help-->Product Information shows "unregistered". Wash, rinse, repeat... Oh, and: Yes I re-started the process at the download site to be sure that I entered my name and email address exactly the same on both ends (3 times). Yes I set the DNS Server to "automatic" in Tools-->Options-->Internet-->Proxy. Yes, cookies are enabled. Yes, at the registration dialog in #3 I hit [Enter] after entering the key instead of clicking "register" (and got a "registration failed" error box). And yes, I copy and pasted the Key so that the zeros and O's didn't get mixed up. The program works great. I just can't register it. Mine did. I installed it and registered it on the first try with no problems at all. Go figure. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

When I went through the procedure a little more than a week ago, I could simply install SO5, run it, go through the registration process (online being necessary in the end) and it told me my registration key and customer number. Since then it was registered. I then tried installing it on another machine where I simply entered the registration key and customer number, and presto! it was registered. I, too, was confused at first about the personal key/registration key thing, but apparently, the personal key is pretty much only for getting through the installation. The registration key is noticably different in lenght and somewhat in content too. I don't know why it won't work for you, though... I didn't even touch internet settings, I just connected via my suseppp generated script on my own and let it do its thing. I don't know if this helps any, other than that it *is* possible... ;) -- Martin Moeller. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
