Here's what I did Patrick. Apparently it wasn't the same as the first time. Test page printed, but just in b & w. localhost:631 takes me to Cups page 1.5.0 entered username and password. Get box w/models: the 6140N not there so chose the 6130N Foomatic/Postscript. (This worked in Ubuntu and Windows 7.) Next page: Set default options: click the box Menu page: Xerox at top. 2 boxes under that ,drop down arrows in both. One box: Maintenance, other is Administration. Chose maintenance, top item in drop down box is print test page. It DID print the Cups test page but no color. Now, is the printer set up or do I have to go to the system settings, printers, add printer etc so the printer will work in the system such as email and documents from Libre office and with color. no, not too detailed. Looks like you have done everything that I would. You might experiment with choosing a different ppd file. I see 4 or 5 listed for the 6130N. Can you tell me if I have to install the printer from system settings/printer to get it to work. I tried an email and a small document in Libre office and no luck at all. Printer jsut sat there doing nothing. :-( I was encouraged with the test page however. Thanks. Bob

Have you looked at the ppd file that comes with the printer? If not, go to xerox and download the xerox cups tar file. Try to load the correct printer ppd file from the xerox file. I suspect the ppd file is not setup properly or either the black and white option on the printer options is set.

I downloaded the ppd file from Xerox. It only gives one file for the 6140N so that's what I used. Worked in Ubuntu. Not sure what a tar file is or if that's what Xerox puts on the website. As a newbie, I have no idea how to expand it. Will try with some help. Thanks. Bob

By the way, I use the add printer from the gnome printer (not the yast) to setup my printer. I find it very easy to set it up. You might want to try YAST add printer instead of doing it via cups.

Lost an email from one of you helpful people. Sorry. Anyway it said to copy the Phaser 6140N ppd to /etc/cups/ppd I did that and it worked great. Went to the cups page and the 6140N ppd was listed in the box so I added it and then set the defaults on the next page, clicked print test page and it worked, and in color! :-) Also prints from email and libre office. Thanks to all you great and patient men. Bob
