I raised this here a while ago and received sympathy about an apparently problematic card as well as encouragment to do a bug report (which would be over my head). But I just took off into YastLand on a hunch and what do I find there if not a setup dialog. I'd been spoiled over the years by autodetection AND setup so it's now just back-to-the-ways-of-old with YAST, period. Works like a charm! Sidebar: I'm having a hsitload of issues with soundware ALL the time, see https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=25728 A related question is "if I disable pulse does that truly and totally take it out of the equation until reboot"? Do it this way;
$ systemctl --user stop pulseaudio.service
After this, pulseaudio will not work unless you do either of these things;
1. $ systemctl --user start pulseaudio.service
or
2. reboot
Thank you

I have no use for any of the above, if I had my way I'd cut the wires. The reason I went to soundcards was the horror that the motherboard bundled 3.5mm connections are with their constant intermittent connections when recording. The mobo BTW is some aging Asus Crosshair-IV. Other PAVC setup pages are full of HDMI and JACK entries though Jack isn't even running. The STX-II card doesn't seem to exist. This has been a real issue with Leap, especially when I have BOTH XONAR cards plugged-in (a practice I abandoned due to the length and number of entries). The referenced Linux Musicians link is ReSOLVED, at least for the time being :-) The Suse VS. rosegarden issue changes every day especially in Leap (maybe because of the card issue). Everything 'sound for music' in Suse is quite unstable, things work for for a while then comes some upgrade and it's back in the ditch again. it was intended as humour :-)
Did you reboot and check the bevaviours of Rosegarden etc. after this?
Yes, rosegarden starts now. I haven't worked with it yet but it should be OK.
In today's PCs, sound and video chips are usually installed in the chipset on the motherboard, and if we try to use an external video card and/or sound card, the video chip and/or sound chip on the chipset must be disabled in the BIOS setting. If we do not set the video chip and/or sound chip on the chipset to "disabled" in the BIOS, we will have problems using the PC just like you.
For one thing my DURGOD gaming keyboard allows me to get into BIOS maybe one out of 100 tries, holding DEL and/or F2 just doesn't do BIOS. But because of this I did buy a stby $10 cheapo keyboard that I have to plug in when I want BIOS. Not very interesting, so most of the time I just let it reset to defaults whenever it throws a fit. And other than the wired LAN I don't think I can disable much.
In addition, sound chips are usually installed in recent external video cards, and if we do not use this chip, we must also set it disable, but this can only be done within the OS that has been booted. In your case, xonar's driver and intel's driver were fighting over the device.
I bought this Asus Crosshair-IV many years ago, it was a big mistake. My next one will have on-board NOTHING, I certainly have less than no use for 3.5mm audio connectors until they are totally redesigned to assure that connection interrupts are IMPOSSIBLE. I love that codestream but I have too many problems with getting tone right for my backing tracks basically intended to play on anthing so I try not to use equalizers. It might be worth a try. Had a very long exchange with a sennheiser engineer once who told me all about the secrets, that a good headphone can do what no speaker ever will. If I only cared about my jamming with the tracks on speakers then AT THAT TIME the use of equalization would be acceptable but I almost always use the headphones.
