KMail composer, Attachment -> View with OpenOffice.org...
Greetings. SUSE Linux 10.0/Kmail 1.8.2/KDE 3.4.2 b (all shipped versions/no changes from my side). When attaching an odt document (OpenOffice.org text) in KMail's composer, and then right cklicking the attachment and choosing View, I would like OpenOffice.org to start and show the document. How can I tell KMail to do this? The correct mime type is automatically set by KMail in the attachment properties. In general, how do I tell KMail what programs should be used to show different document/data format attachements in the above situation? Best regards :o) Johnny :o)

Open Konqueror or Control Center (aka Personal Settings), then go to File associations. Change the file type to be opened by the program you want to use. Kmail will use the settings you use there in the file associations. bye Lee

Thank you Lee, but it does not work in my case. The system's mime types are just fine. In the KMail composer I can right click the attachment and choosing "Open" starts OpenOffice.org to show the document just fine, but "View" does not. (Double clicking in Konqueror works fine too.) Is it possible to set "View" to do the same as "Open"? It is for my mother who insist on "View"ing her attachments before sending her messages, so she can ashure herself that they are correctly attached (don't ask - just humor her). Best regards :o) Johnny :o)

Hi Johnny, Tell her that 'View' means viewing the attachment using Kmail internal engine, so it probably only works for certain type of attachment such as plain text. Please convince her to use the 'Open' instead.
