I have a OS independant problem. I was given written Linux CDs. I can't boot off of them or even mount them in Suse. Sometimes I can and others mount gives me an error saying "No media found". This is the same problem in Windows. The CD Read light stays on for 2 minutes then gives an error. I have a Creative DVD 5X Dxr2 and on another computer a Mecer DVD 10X. Both won't read the CD's. Has anyone a clue or had the same problem? Thanks Ray Booysen
Sound to me as if the CDs are bad / corrupted. I have had this happen before. You probably need to ask whomever made the copies for you to make new copies. The activities you describe are the same when I have a corrupted CD, long read cycle for the CD player with no results in the end. Jim 02/12/02 04:52:20 AM, "Ray Booysen" <rjb-dis@iafrica.com> wrote:

That happens alot when you try to read a cd written on a cdr, on an plain cdrom drive . The laser in your cdrom might not be strong enough to read the cd's. Try to use an cdr or cdrw to read those. I've noticed that air temperture and humidity can affect whether the cdr's can be read, sometimes they work, sometimes not. -- $|=1;while(1){print pack("h*",'75861647f302d4560275f6272797f3');sleep(1); for(1..16){for(8,32,8,7){print chr($_);}select(undef,undef,undef,.05);}}
