[SuSE Linux] Accented characters ( LATIN-1 )
I'd like to be able to enter latin characters in KDE via the keyboard using my US keyboard. Surely there are some Canadians on this list who have done this to enable French character entry? My primary interest is to be able to use a compose or dead key for the entry. For example 'e -> e acute, `a -> a grave. I can do this *within* emacs but not under X. I speak Irish Gaelic and I'm planning on adding support for Irish Gaelic to KDE. But as a first step I need to be able to be able to enter the text. If you're using xkb, edit the symbols file so that one of the keys (maybe MENU if you've got it, or possibly one of the Meta or function keys) is "Multi_key". If you're using xmodmap... uh, I'm not sure. Check the man page. Also, you can edit your keymap for the console to reflect this -- they're in /usr/lib/kbd somewhere. I use an edited us.map. If you edit the current one directly, you won't even have to change your YaST settings, just run SuSEconfig and do `loadkeys /etc/default.keymap` or whatever the name of the file is. ------------------------------------------------ Ewan Dunbar northsky@ix.netcom.com ------------------------------------------------ Visit Preston Manning: Action Hero at <A HREF="http://earl.thedunbars.com/pmah/index.html</A">http://earl.thedunbars.com/pmah/index.html</A> ------------------------------------------------ -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
