[opensuse] how to put different wallpapers on each desktop.
In the preious version of SuSE I was using (10.3), I could set different wallpapers on each desktop. I can't find that option in SuSE 11.1 - Where did they move it to? Google + kde4 + desktop + different + wallpapers Unless you use activities, this is not possible, yet should not hinder anyone to do his work. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Here are some threads that I think should help: http://forum.kde.org/kde4-multiple-desktop-displays-solved-t-9248.html http://forum.kde.org/different-plasmoids-wallpaper-per-desktop-t-22425.html http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=61885 http://www.google.com/search?q=kde+4+different+wallpapers+per+desktop&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1 There are a lot more at the end of that other search... You try too hard! I gave an answer and added some info, which you did not. thus your email was quite useless aka spam. The best help is to help people help themselves. Using google is basic knowledge and should be considered before doing it the lazy way, i.e. asking others. Actually, pointing out that your email wasn't very helpful is what we do as a community.

Again, while I have dealt with this myself, and there's even a site called letmegooglethatforyou.com that people have created because of this, we are still a community and we still have many people who are new or inexperienced with newer versions of our distro. If you aren't going to bother offering a real answer, maybe you shouldn't bother hitting the reply button. Not singling you out, but the messages on these lists have ended up degenerating into uslessness on far too many occasions(and I am just as guilty myself). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Please, why on earth are you people trying that hard? He asked how he could set different wallpapers for each virtual desktop and that he was running KDE 4.1. In KDE3 it is the same way as in 11.0 btw. I gave him the answer: It is not possible with KDE4.1, unless you use activities. I won't bother quoting myself. On top of that I told him that he could have got that answer by doing a simple google-search. So you telling me, that I did not offer a real answer, are just lying. Even more so, both of you adding to this thread without adding any answer to the question but just complaining about me giving the only real answer there is for KDE 4.1 and I think KDE 4.2 as well, is just spamming the list. So unless you can tell him how to do it in KDE 4.1 without activities, i.e. add anything useful to my answer, stick to your own advice. And please stop sending private messages that spam my inbox, this is a mailinglist and answers should go only to the mailinglist. And what exactly is an activity and how do you use it? I have absolutely no idea what that is either, nor would I have a clue how to find it. Sure, a google search might help, but why not just show us HOW to find it if you are going to reply anyway. The biggest reason newbies don't stay with Linux is smart@ss replies that discourage them. For those who have used WinDoZe forever, they need a little more hand holding than that, so my point stands. Short, snippy replies that explain nothing are pointless.

gmail defaults to your email address and the cc's to the list. I do TRY to make sure that I don't send a reply to the OP, and generally don't even notice if someone sends to me AND the list because gmail only shows me 1 copy. So sorry I am not perfect. You mean that you have no control over your *chosen* email client's functionality? I use gmail and *I* tell gmail who and where to send *any* post that I make and it is simple. I use my chosen email client, mutt, and a gmail "From:" address and relay the outgoing mail thru my provider. That way I see my own posts on the list and have control over what and where I send *anything*. Linux is about choice and control over your *own* machine. It is true, the possible control over gmail's webmail is not complete. There are things you simply can not do (automatically). Users have to do a "reply to all" and remember to remove one address, or hit "reply" and change the address. It is easy to forget now and then, so we should be tolerant of those errors, and check what mail client is using before spanking them >:-) On the other hand, it is easy for recipients to set a procmail recipe that separates direct replies copies, so that they don't "spam" your inbox ;-)

That's it! Henne, would you set up openSUSE-Handholding@openSUSE.org, please? (Renaming this list to openSUSE-CrankyKnowItAlls@openSUSE.org can be considered optional.)

The KDE team hasn't implemented that yet. They were too busy adding widgets and glitz to it to make it enough like KDE3 that a lot of us can actually use it. Even Linus Torvalds has moved away from KDE because of the KDE4 fiascos. If you use KDE3, you are able to do that. KDE4.0 was an Alpha release. 4.1 was a Beta and 4.2 looks like a Release Candidate. Maybe 4.3 will actually be ready for prime time. Till then, I will stick to openSUSE 11.0/KDE3. I've found zero reason to use 11.1(other than a potential fix for one of my Powerbooks, but till I upgrade the processor, it's not really a usable system.....) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Correction, evidently it's now in 4.2. However, most people will continue to use the 4.1.x in 11.1, and not upgrade to 4.2, so they probably won't be able to get this to work. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
