Re: [SLE] Installing SuSE Pro-Office together with StarOffice 5.2?

I assume that you are installing StarOffice6 as root? Try installing it just under your regular user ID instead (use setup instead of install). It will write everything to a directory under $HOME instead of the global directories. Then you can run the versions side by next (SO5.2 from the global install, and SO6 from the local user install) and compare them.
Thanks, Clayton, for the suggestion. However, since I'm installing from RPM files, that option does not work (unless I use, e.g., rpm2cpio and install everything by hand, including running any install scripts). I expect that any non-RPM version (e.g., that from Sun?) would work as you suggested. Run as myself: $ rpm -ivh --test .../pay9/so_* file /usr/X11R6/bin/soffice from install of so_en-6.0-2 conflicts with file from package so_en-5.2_01_569a19-53 file /usr/share/doc/packages/so_en/README.SuSE from install of so_en-6.0-2 conflicts with file from package so_en-5.2_01_569a19-53 Thanks! And now that I re-read your original posting a bit more carefully.... I noticed you did say you were trying to install from rpm. Given my limited knowledge of RPM, I am not going to attempt to guess at how to rebuild the RPM on the SuSE disks. If you have the tar.gz from SUN you can install it globally or locally as I suggested. I would say it is worth your time to find a new copy of the SUN install version of either SO6 or OO1 if you want/need to compare side by side. The new version is a welcome change from the old SO5.2.... if only for the MSOfficeXP filters. C. On Thursday 18 July 2002 22:52, Philip Amadeo Saeli wrote:

Are you trying to use rpm directly? Wouldn't it be better to use YaST, as suggested on the Pro-CD cover? Kevin

He can use rpm, but than he had to use the correct option: rpm -Uhv ...
