You need to select a different colour depth for your X-Server. There is a particular colour depth that Netscape doesn't like, and switches to black and white display mode. I can't remember which mode it is offhand, I'm sure it's documented somewhere though - the SuSE support database or the Netscape docs.

[snip] SuSE 5.3 is configured by default to use the OSS sound drivers, and the sound module support is disabled. You need to edit /etc/conf.modules and replace the line "alias char-major-14 off" with "alias char-major-14 sound" Phil -- Philip Stokes Email: phil@stokes.demon.co.uk Fax: +44 (0)870 164 1242 - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

It's 24bpp that looks like crap. I think 32 might be icky as well. I tried different depths (long time ago) and found a default depth of 16bpp to be the most wholesome visually. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I use netscape communicator and I found that at 16 bit the icons and pictures were pixelized and at 24bit the icons were kinda black and white and the web pages appeared good, but at 32 bit everything is just the way it should be! -- Carl Johnson Sys Admin cjs@cj-solutions.com |_| |_| | |\/--- | |\ | | | \/ | NIKE | | | \| |__| /\ |______| _______________ ____ | OH SHIT IT's | |..| --| LINUX!!! | |__| |_______________| |\/| icro$ft "Watch Linux walk all over Micro$oft" | | /||\ /\ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I run a Matrox Mill1...and I ALWAYS run 1152 at 32bpp. I've never seen any anomalies in the rendering of any pages/graphics in Netscape....and my root window looks pretty spiffy too. :-) Rick Thompson - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Thanx for the correction. It's been a while sense I fiddled and my memory was apparently inaccurate. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
