[opensuse] Suse on an EeePc: No Make
Hello I am currently trying to get Suse 10.3 on my EeePC, but I encounter 3 problems. First, I have no make. I would like to install the Madwifi drivers to get my wifi card working, but there is no make. I gave Suse all the space available (7.5G) , because I want to use an external USB stick as /home/user/documents and I do not expect to need more than 1G of memory so no swap space. Second: The system always needs the original USB stick I used to install in order to boot. I would like it to be able to boot from the internal ssd. Third: I cannot play mp3 files. Somehow it is not possible to decode mp3 files with Amarok. The first and third problems are strange: I can do both with my full Suse 10.3 system, but not with the EeePC. I have an almost default installation on the EeePC. I just removed Beagle and all that need it and set the partitioner to use the entire disk for /. Neil -- There are two kinds of people: 1. Can't you install it?

I started an array with "aardvark" once. But to stay on topic, there are really 10 kinds of people in the world. Those who understand binary math and those who don't. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Urgh, wrong! "There are only 10 types of people in the world - those who understand ternary, those who don't, and those who mistake it for binary." :) -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Make is under development packages in install And can't you install xine and then change Amarok engine to xine? Michael S. Dunsavage -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Have you read the how-to guide for the eee on the wiki http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_on_the_EeePC? It has instructions on where to pre-download the correct wifi and ethernt drivers from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/appleonkel:/EEE/ as well as plenty of other hints. Hi all, If someone has successfully installed openSUSE and want to share the image, I have bandwidth and plenty of space. A tar will do or any other image as suitable. Then tweaking languages/favorite media player, etc. could be left to the end user. Please tell me what you think about this idea :-) A painless solution to hack the eeePC. The smartest would probably be just an autoinst.xml and a syslinux/pxelinux config file. Possibly a preconfigured syslinux/usb-thumb-drive version of mini.iso Or similary, preconfigured livecd and full dvd on usb where the only difference is the conversion from .iso to thumb drive and the addition of the autoinst.xml and syslinux.cfg Better yet, just a little script that downloads the regular cd/dvd and xml & cfg and creates the usb drive from it. No real justification for hosting a whole dvd image that only has 2 little text files as the only difference from the stock one. Beter yet, a wiki with an ever growing table of similar "perfected" config files for various other laptops and other special hardware. Maybe the wiki could have a cgi that takes options and generates the xml and other config files, linuxrc boot prompt options etc, and generates them on the fly for most cases based on options entered in the table row, instead of having an ever growing collection of static xml files. For really special cases that the cgi can't handle, you could also sumbit a full xml for that row. -- Brian K.
