KDE desktop icon grid spacing
For the KDE desktop icons, are the horizontal and vertical grid spacings adjustable? I can't find anything in the Control Center or anywhere else. -Ti

This is the second time I've seen reference to this, but there is no announcement on kde.org and nothing on the SuSE site, the latest I've seen is 3.3beta2. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====

It's available for 5-6 days or so. You should follow: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/freshrpms.html#suse91 -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Those rpms are horribly misnamed 3.3-RC2 rpms. 3.3-final hasn't been released yet

Are there already any bugs reported that alter the RC2 version from the final version? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

We won't know that until the final version is released, will we

I just upgraded to KDE 3.3 on SuSE 9.1. I found it at: http://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/ This is the reason for asking about the icon grid spacing because after the upgrade the vertical spacing was way too big. -Ti

This is usually the case, I have problems on my box and Pete doesn't, other times it's the other way round and we haven't been able to determine why, even when the hardware is pretty much identical. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====

In 3.2.1, you can edit ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals. In section: [DesktopIcons] GridXSpacing=25 Size=24 Size lets me choose what I want for icon size instead of the preselected sizes allowed in the control panel. GridXSpacing lets me set the horizontal spacing. I tried a GridYSpacing... didn't hurt anything, but didn't help either. Maybe 3.3 will allow this setting? Edit and restart the desktop. With 3.2.1, it seems all the icons have the same vertical size and that size is determined by the icon size, font size, and largest number of rows of text in the name of the icons. I try to use the smallest icon (32 was too big and 16 too small ... 24 just right!) and smallest font that I'm comfortable with along with making the names as short as possible (I try to keep the longest name no more than two rows). That gives me the smallest vertical size I can get. Have fun! Doug
